Stephen Curry is 38 years old and still rewriting the record books. Curry scored 41 points on Saturday night as the Golden State Warriors beat the Orlando Magic 126 to 119 in overtime at Chase Center, and the night gave him a record that puts him ahead of LeBron James.
It was Curry's 16th regular season 40 point game since turning 35, the most in NBA history. LeBron James has 15 such games and Michael Jordan had 12. Curry took the record alone on a running scoop shot that put the Warriors ahead by four with 54 seconds left in overtime.
Curry finished with 41 points on 13 of 19 shooting, 5 of 10 from three and a perfect 10 of 10 at the free throw line, with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. He had 36 points at the end of regulation, then
added five more in overtime. Nineteen of his 41 points came in the fourth quarter and overtime, when the Warriors needed every one of them.

Curry made a go ahead layup with 25.2 seconds left in regulation, but Jamal Cain's putback with 2 seconds left on Orlando's third try at the rim sent the game into overtime. In the extra period, Curry started on the bench alongside Draymond Green, then checked back in with 3 minutes 48 seconds left and Golden State up four.
With the Warriors trailing 118 to 117, Curry attacked the basket, converted a difficult floater through contact and completed the three point play to give Golden State the lead for good with 1 minute 38 seconds rem
aining. Wendell Carter Jr. then missed two free throws with 1 minute 15 seconds left that would have tied it, and Curry's running layup with 54 seconds left made it 122 to 118 and pushed him past 40.

A first quarter three pointer extended his streak to 100 consecutive games with at least one made three, marking the third separate 100 game streak of his career. No other player in NBA history has done that more than once.
He did not do it alone. Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg made a key three pointer in overtime and contributed 23 points and 8 rebounds. The young duo combined for 38 points, and the bench scored 42 as Golden State won its seventh straight game after an 0 and 3 start. The Warriors now sit at 7 and 3, with their longest winning streak since seven in a row from March 3 to 15, 2025.
It was Curry's second 40 point game of the season and his fourth game of at least 30 points in his last five. Through eight games he is averaging 31.25 points in 29.63 minutes per game. After a knee issue cost him 27 consecutive games last season, the response to any questions about how much scoring he has left could not be louder.
LeBron James is still playing in what could be his final season, but he is averaging a career low 14.8 points per game. Curry, at 38, will likely hold this record for years. The Warriors next game is against the New Orleans Pelicans, and Curry will take the floor with the record
now his alone.
