Apple Music has named Drake its Best Rapper of 2026, putting the Toronto star front and center on its Rap Life: Best of 2026 playlist.
The playlist was published on November 3, and the editorial that came with it called 2026 Drake's loudest comeback in years. The case Apple Music made rests on numbers: ICEMAN became the first rap album released in 2026 to cross two billion streams.
ICEMAN carried most of the weight in a year built around a three album release weekend. Back in May, Drake surprise dropped ICEMAN, HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR together, 43 new songs in a single weekend spanning rap, R and B and dance. ICEMAN opened with 463,000 equivalent album units in the United States, and the three projects took the top three spots on the Billboard 200 at the same time, giving Drake his 15th number one album.
Apple Music said ICEMAN did the heaviest lifting commercially, calling the run a reassertion of Drake's rightful claim to hip hop's hitmaking throne. The 50 track Rap Life playlist also features Lil Baby, 21 Savage, Gunna, Don Toliver, DaBaby, Lil Uzi Vert and Yung Miami.
The honor caps a year that started with plenty of people wondering where Drake stood. Late October also brought a Recording Industry Association of America milestone, with Drake passing 350 million certified units across albums, singles and features, a total no artist in any genre had reached before him.
A playlist crown measures what listeners actually played, and by that measure Drake's year in rap is hard to argue with.
The recognition follows a year in which Drake also leads rap in United States album consumption for 2026 by a wide margin, a measure of how much of the year's listening his catalog has held. Apple Music's editorial framed the three album weekend as a genre spanning
