Myles Bullock Be, known for his roles on BMF and The Vince Staples Show, has been cast as Dr. Dre in Universal Pictures upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, filling one of the film most critical roles and bringing the project closer to production.

Bullock Be joins Jonathan Daviss of Outer Banks fame, who was previously announced as Snoop Dogg himself. The pairing puts two rising actors in the roles of one of hip-hop most legendary partnerships. Dre discovered Snoop, signed him to Death Row Records, and produced his 1993 debut Doggystyle, which remains one of the best-selling rap albums of all time.
The casting was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter and later announced on the TODAY show. Craig Brewer is directing the film, titled simply Snoop, working from a screenplay he developed after an earlier draft by Joe Robert Cole. The project has been in development for several years as Universal worked to get the creative team and cast aligned before moving to production.

Dr. Dre is not a side character in the Snoop Dogg story. He is the person who heard a young Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. freestyling on a demo tape, brought him into the studio, and built an entire sonic world around his laid-back delivery. Universal has not announced a production start date or release window. With the two lead roles now locked, the project can move forward with pre-production scheduling. Both Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are expected to be involved in an advisory capacity, following the model established by the Straight Outta Compton biopic that earned over 200 million dollars worldwide in 2015 while telling the N.W.A. origin story.
The hip-hop biopic space has proven commercially viable and culturally impactful when executed well. Straight Outta Compton set the template, the Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me showed the pitfalls of rushing production, and the upcoming Snoop project has the benefit of learning from both. With the two leads now locked and the subject himself involved, the foundation appears solid for a film that can honor the era while reaching a new generation of viewers.
