A luxury handbag collection valued at more than $250,000 became the center of a South Florida criminal investigation after social media influencer Stormy Wellington reported that expensive designer pieces were missing.
Authorities identified Shaquille Palmer, 33, of Oakland Park, as the man accused of taking the handbags. According to Local 10 News, Palmer had previously worked for Wellington, adding another layer to an investigation that would eventually lead police directly to his doorstep.
The case involved some of the most recognizable names in luxury fashion, with the missing collection reportedly including high value Hermès and Chanel items.

The Investigation Took An Unexpected Turn
The investigation became even more unusual after authorities initially arrested the wrong person.
According to Local 10 News, a man was initially identified and arrested in connection with the theft, but Wellington quickly told investigators that the person in the released mugshot was not the individual she believed stole her handbags.
That suspect was subsequently released, while investigators continued looking for the person they believed was actually responsible.
The mistake created another dramatic turn in a case that was already receiving attention because of the enormous reported value of the missing collection.
Palmer Walks Into The Police Department
The search eventually ended when Palmer walked into the Miramar Police Department and surrendered.
Local 10 News reported that body camera footage showed Palmer being escorted from the lobby in handcuffs. He also spoke with investigators and gave his side of the story, although that portion of the body camera footage had not been released in the report.
The unusual surrender happened after the investigation had already intensified and authorities were searching for him.

A $150,000 Bond And A Case Still Developing
Palmer appeared in court and was granted a $150,000 bond. Local 10 reported that he remained in Broward Main Jail as of October 5.
The case remains an allegation at this stage. An arrest does not establish guilt, and the evidence presented in court will ultimately determine what happened to the luxury collection and who was responsible for its disappearance.
For a case involving hundreds of thousands of dollars in designer merchandise, the most unusual chapter may already have happened, but the legal process is just beginning.
