The city of Miami Beach has officially revoked "Sean Diddy Combs Day" following the mounting assault allegations and federal sex trafficking investigation against the embattled music mogul. The Miami Beach Commission made the decision on June 26, 2024, without any discussion, according to the Miami Herald.
Miami Beach Revokes Sean Diddy Combs Day
Diddy originally received the honorary recognition from Mayor Phillip Levine at a REVOLT conference in 2016, with October 13 being declared "Sean Diddy Combs Day" in the city. According to Billboard, the commission determined that the honor no longer aligned with the city's values in light of the serious accusations against Combs.
"Upon reflection, the Mayor and City Commission have determined that recognizing October 13, 2016 as 'Sean Diddy Combs Day' is no longer in harmony with the City's values of safety, community well being, and respect, and wish to rescind the proclamation."
The revocation came three months after federal agents raided Diddy's South Beach mansion as part of a sex trafficking investigation. The raids, which also targeted his Los Angeles property, sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
Diddy Has Been Stripped Of Multiple Honors
The Miami Beach revocation was just one in a series of honors being stripped from Combs in the wake of the allegations. On June 7, 2024, Howard University's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to revoke the honorary degree they had conferred upon Diddy in 2014. According to NBC News, the university also disbanded a scholarship program in his name, returned his $1 million donation, and terminated a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.
The university's statement made it clear that the decision was directly tied to the viral video released by CNN showing Combs assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a hotel hallway in 2016. Howard stated that his behavior was "so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University's core values" that he was "no longer worthy to hold the institution's highest honor."
New York City also moved to reclaim the key to the city that had been given to Combs. Letters were sent on June 4, and Combs returned the key on June 10.
Diddy Memorabilia Headed To Auction
Meanwhile, according to TMZ, a guitar autographed with Combs' Puff Daddy moniker was headed to auction through GottaHaveRockandRoll. The electric guitar, signed "Luv, Puff Daddy, Bad Boy 4 Life" in silver ink, was expected to sell for at least $2,000 as part of the auction house's Hip Hop collection, which kicked off on June 26. Other notable items in the auction included a Biggie Smalls signature, Kanye West's autographed boots, and a nose ring that once belonged to Tupac.
The hip hop community continues to react to the developments, with artists, producers, and fans weighing in across social media platforms. In a genre that thrives on authenticity, competition, and unfiltered expression, moments like this become part of the larger cultural conversation that defines each era of the music. The story is still unfolding, and in hip hop, the next chapter is always just one verse, one post, or one interview away from changing everything.
