Eminem Goes Nuclear on Antichrist
Eminem came out swinging on his twelfth studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), released on July 12, 2024, through Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records. The concept album centers around a battle between Eminem himself and his Slim Shady alter ego, and the track Antichrist is where the name dropping gets the most intense. The 51 year old rapper, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, referenced Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Cosby, and Sean "Diddy" Combs all in one song.
The track opens with Eminem declaring himself the antichrist before launching into bars about Kanye and Kim Kardashian. He raps about not wanting to go off the deep end like Ye and finding a way to get rid of his rage like Kim did. From there, the lyrics only get more provocative.
The Megan and Nicki Bars
Eminem made sexual references to two of the biggest female rappers in the game, rapping that Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj would scissor. The line was classic Slim Shady shock value, designed to generate exactly the kind of reaction it got. He also referenced Ben Affleck, Seth Green, and Jeffrey Epstein's jet in the same verse, painting a chaotic picture that blurred the line between dark humor and genuine provocation.
This was not the first time Eminem referenced Megan on the album. On the lead single Houdini, released on May 31, 2024, he rapped about asking Megan Thee Stallion to collaborate and wondering if he would really have a shot at a feature. That line was more playful, but the Antichrist bars took things to a completely different level.
The Diddy and Cassie Reference
Elsewhere on the album, Eminem directly referenced the hotel surveillance footage that showed Diddy allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The lyrics described the incident in graphic detail, with Eminem rapping about the beating being worse than what Diddy did and referencing specific elements from the footage that had been widely circulated online. The bars were among the most talked about on the entire album and added to the growing cultural conversation around Diddy's legal troubles in 2024.
The Album's Reception
The Death of Slim Shady was Eminem's first album in over four years, following Music to Be Murdered By in 2020. The album received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the technical skill and others arguing that the shock value lyrics felt dated. HipHopDX described some of the celebrity references as being made in poor taste. But fans of classic Slim Shady era content embraced the album for its willingness to go places that most modern rappers would not. The Antichrist track in particular became a focal point of discussion, with every name drop generating its own wave of social media reactions and debate.
