Ski Mask the Slump God shut down the conspiracy theory that Drake was connected to XXXTentacion's murder, calling it "stupid" and telling believers to "go outside and touch grass." The Florida rapper responded after professional boxer Ryan Garcia reignited the debunked theory with a viral tweet.
Ski Mask The Slump God Responds To Drake XXXTentacion Conspiracy
The drama kicked off when Ryan Garcia took to X on Friday, June 20, 2024, and posted, "F**k it, Drake killed X." The tweet came days after the sixth anniversary of XXXTentacion's death and shortly after Garcia received a one year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission and a $10,000 fine for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs following his fight with Devin Haney. The timing of the tweet appeared random and unprompted.
Ski Mask, who was one of XXXTentacion's closest friends and collaborators, having co founded the hip hop collective Members Only with him in 2014, was not having it.
"Whoever Believe This Stupid Sh*t Too Deep In The YouTube Conspiracy Rabbit Hole Go Outside Touch Grass My N***a."
Where The Drake XXXTentacion Conspiracy Came From
The conspiracy theory dates back to 2018 when XXXTentacion and Drake were publicly feuding. After his breakout single "Look At Me" blew up in 2017, XXX accused Drake of copying his flow for the song "KMT." The tension escalated when XXX posted a video claiming Drake was stealing from him.
Three months before his death, XXXTentacion posted a tweet that would fuel conspiracy theories for years to come.
"If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi [Drake]. I'm snitching RN."
On June 18, 2018, XXXTentacion was shot and killed in Deerfield Beach, Florida, near a motorcycle dealership. He was just 20 years old. Four suspects were arrested and charged with first degree murder. The conspiracy theory gained additional traction when Drake received a subpoena to appear in a virtual deposition during the murder trial.
The Conspiracy Was Debunked In Court
Florida judge Michael A. Usan ultimately ruled that there was insufficient evidence linking Drake to the murder, and the Toronto rapper was excused from having to attend the deposition. In connection with XXXTentacion's death, Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright, and Trayvon Newsome were found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
Despite the convictions and the court's findings, the conspiracy theory has persisted in certain corners of the internet. Ski Mask's response made it clear that those closest to XXX do not believe Drake had anything to do with the murder, and that continuing to push the narrative is disrespectful to everyone involved.
The hip hop community continues to react to the developments, with artists, producers, and fans weighing in across social media platforms. In a genre that thrives on authenticity, competition, and unfiltered expression, moments like this become part of the larger cultural conversation that defines each era of the music. The story is still unfolding, and in hip hop, the next chapter is always just one verse, one post, or one interview away from changing everything.
