Isabella Announces She Is Cancer Free
Isabella Strahan, the 19 year old daughter of Good Morning America host Michael Strahan, announced in July 2024 that she is cancer free after a months long battle with a rare brain tumor. Isabella shared the news on her YouTube channel in an episode she titled "Goodbye Hospital," a three minute video that showed her in a hospital bed and then in a car heading home. She told viewers that her last MRI went well and that everything was clear.
Isabella said she does not have another doctor's appointment until October and that she misses her doctors and hospital staff because they helped her so much throughout the process. She said she loves them very much. The video was emotional but upbeat, reflecting the same positive attitude she maintained throughout her treatment.

Isabella was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in October 2023. Medulloblastoma is a cancerous tumor that develops at the base of the skull in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls coordination and movement. It is described as the most common type of brain cancer in children. Isabella first noticed something was wrong at the beginning of October 2023 when she started experiencing headaches, nausea, and difficulty walking straight.
After testing at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, doctors found a tumor in the back of her brain that measured 4 centimeters, larger than a golf ball. She underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor on October 27, which was also her 19th birthday. Isabella was a freshman at the University of Southern California at the time of her diagnosis.
The Road to Recovery
The surgery was just the beginning. Isabella went through multiple rounds of radiation treatment and four rounds of chemotherapy, which she completed in June 2024. The chemotherapy caused her hair to fall out, and she relied heavily on her twin sister Sophia and a month of rehabilitation to help her learn to walk again after the surgery. She documented the entire journey on her YouTube series, giving fans an honest look at what the treatment process was like.
Despite the difficulty, Isabella maintained a positive outlook throughout. During a January 2024 appearance on Good Morning America, she told viewers she was grateful just to be able to walk, see friends, and do everyday things. She said that when you lose the ability to do something, it really impacts you and changes your perspective.
What Comes Next
Michael Strahan had not publicly reacted to his daughter's cancer free announcement on his personal Instagram at the time of the video's release, but the family's relief was evident. Isabella returned to college in August 2024, just a month after being declared cancer free. She has continued to share updates about her recovery and has spoken about how the experience changed her permanently, saying she will never be the same person she was before the diagnosis. Her story has resonated with thousands of people going through similar health battles.
