Master P Keeps Proving Product Outweighs Talent: And Forbes Is Paying Attention

Master P has been saying it for three decades: product outweighs talent. Now Forbes is giving him flowers for living it.

The No Limit Records founder celebrated his latest Forbes feature this week, highlighting his role in bridging the racial wealth gap through Black-owned business. Standing alongside Rap Snacks founder James Lindsay, P made it clear that Black entrepreneurs building together is the only path forward.

From 10K to an Empire

Percy Miller turned a $10,000 inheritance from a medical malpractice settlement on his grandfather into one of hip-hop's most extraordinary business stories. That money became a record store in Richmond, California. The record store became No Limit Records. And No Limit became a machine that moved 100 million records, launched clothing lines, film deals, a WCW contract, and eventually a food empire.

The man negotiated an 85/15 split with Priority Records. He kept 85 percent. At a time when most rappers were signing away everything, P walked into the boardroom with $200,000 of his own marketing money and told them how it was going to work. When they said he could only release one record, he reminded them he owned the company. They dropped 28 albums in 1998. Twenty-three went platinum or gold.

The Food Industry Play

Today Master P's business moves center on food. He invested in Rap Snacks alongside founder James Lindsay, helping the brand become the most distributed Black-owned potato chip company in the country with placement in over 4,200 Walmart stores. He partnered with Snoop Dogg on Broadus Foods cereal, then created Miller Family Foods to push healthier alternatives into communities that need them.

When Walmart initially hid their products on shelves, P and Snoop sued. They won. The relationship recovered, and the products stayed on shelves. That willingness to fight for shelf space, literally, is what separates P from artists who license their name and collect a check.

Invest Fest and the Bigger Message

Speaking at Invest Fest 2026 in Atlanta on August 9, Master P delivered the same message he has been hammering for years. Ownership is everything. Distribution is the game. And Black entrepreneurs need to stop building for other people's empires and start investing those hours into their own.

He pointed to the wealth gap directly. Black billionaires can be counted on one hand. The gap between Black and white household wealth is approximately $1.15 million per household according to Federal Reserve data. P's argument is that closing it requires more Black-owned products on shelves, not just more Black talent making money for someone else.

In a follow-up video, P expanded on the mindset behind all of it. He called it kingdom building. Being a servant. Preparing the next generation. His message to aspiring entrepreneurs was simple: put the work in and do not quit. You cannot stop God's plan.

What Comes Next

Master P is not slowing down. A No Limit and Cash Money joint tour kicks off in September. He has a heist film called Motion in the works starring Eddie Griffin, Tiffany Haddish, and Terry Crews. He just announced a new basketball sneaker with Max Out Sports. And he has 200 unreleased songs in the vault that he is considering remastering with longtime producer Donald XL.

At this point, questioning whether Master P can pull something off feels foolish. The man went from the Calliope Projects to Forbes, and he did it by owning everything he touched. Product outweighs talent. He said it first, and he proved it loudest.
